The San Diego Architectural Foundation

is now an official chapter of

Pecha Kucha Night!

What IS Pecha Kucha Night?
Pecha Kucha Night was designed by designers Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in 2003 as a place for (you guessed it) designers to meet, network, and show their work in public.  Pecha Kucha is now happening in 143 locations globally. The SDAF is pleased to have been selected as San Diego's official chapter of PKN.

Pecha Kucha (pronounced peh-cha ku-cha) is derived from a Japanese term meaning the sound of conversation, or chit-chat. Pecha Kucha Nights are creative, social and informal.  The concept is simple: each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds –  giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of floor time and expression before the next presenter is up. Then there’s the 20 "rules". One of our favorites? Pecha Kucha Night is about thinking and drinking.  It all makes for stimulating, scintillating, succinct and often striking presentations from the design, architecture, photography, art and creative fields. Presentations begin at 20:20 - surprised?

Who presents at Pecha Kucha Nights?

The PKN floor is open to anyone who has something to share and a desire to do so within the 20 x 20 format. The SDAF will often (but not always) offer a theme for any given date to provide direction, and when we do even a whiff of the evening's theme is acceptable - but not required. Unacceptable: sales presentations and porno - but almost everything else, from sharing a work in progress to something from 1000 years ago that has left an indelible imprint, is.

How can I participate?

If you have a 20x20 presentation up your sleeve, a desire to support the organizing committee, a venue to host a Pecha Kucha Night or to become a sponsor, or any questions about this program please send an email to PKN@SDArchitecture.org, and we'll get back to you soon.
